Bionic Eyes Enter the AI Era: Machines Learn to 'Read' the Brain

A team led by UC Santa Barbara and ETH Zurich has demonstrated for the first time in awake human patients that deep learning models can optimize electrical stimulation patterns for visual cortex prostheses, improving accuracy and reducing current. This paves the way for next-generation bionic eyes that adapt to individual brain states.
