Anthropic Makes Auto Mode Default for Claude Code, Citing Better Safety Than Human Approval

Anthropic announced that starting August 14, auto mode will be the default permission mode for Claude Code Pro, Max, and Team users. The mode uses a classifier to review shell commands, catching 89% of dangerous commands in tests compared to 14% for human approval. The company believes auto mode is safer than manual review and has waived extra token fees to boost developer productivity.
