On July 6, 2026, xAI announced the addition of 21 new flagship voices to Grok Voice, bringing the total to 26 voices. The new voices include Lumen, Castor, Naksh, Atlas, Carina, Zagan, Helix, Orion, Luna, Wellness, and others, with Wellness described as "soft, empathetic, and soothing." All new voices natively support Grok Voice's over 25 languages, including Chinese, English, Arabic, French, German, and more. xAI showcased a Chinese example from the Luna voice in a blog post: "Close your eyes and listen quietly for a moment. Every sound tells a story, and every story deserves to be heard."

Each voice is designed for specific use cases, including support, character, commentary, advertising, and education. Developers can control voice output using voice tags such as [pause] and <whisper>. For example, the Carina voice demonstrated a tagged dialogue in a support scenario: "Thanks for your patience — I found the issue. [pause] Your account was still on the legacy plan, so I've moved you over and <emphasis> applied the credit to this month. </emphasis> <soft> You're all set. </soft>" This shows that the new voices have fine-grained control over emotional expression and pacing.

The original five voices—Ara, Eve, Leo, Rex, and Sal—also received upgrades. xAI stated that they were retrained with improved recipes, resulting in more natural pacing, phrasing, and emphasis. Rex and Sal are described as "warm and friendly." This upgrade, released alongside the new voices, indicates that xAI has systematically optimized voice synthesis quality.

The new voices are available via the real-time Voice Agent API, Text to Speech API, and the newly launched Grok Voice Agent Builder. The Voice Agent Builder allows developers to build custom voice agents and supports cloning a user's own voice from about one minute of audio. xAI provided "Try It Free" and "Try in Playground" entry points in the blog post to encourage users to try it out.
