Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella called for a rethink of how trust is built into AI systems, proposing that AI models be separated from the harness that orchestrates their work and that controls and safeguards be moved outside the model itself. In a post on X, he also advocated for tamper-proof, human-readable records of every meaningful model action and for authorized personnel to be able to pause or shut down a model mid-task, likening the approach to an emergency brake. His comments follow incidents where leading AI companies acknowledged losing control of their models and come after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a plan for more cautious AI development.
