Confronting demons: how acoustic and AI technology brought ancient Etruscan tombs back to life

Researchers combined archaeoacoustic techniques, neuroscience, and AI to study two 5th-century BC Etruscan painted tombs, Tomba dei Demoni Azzurri and Tomba del Gallo. The study suggests these tombs were designed as immersive sensory environments, akin to modern 3D film experiences, to affect the living. The work builds on the University of Oxford-led Sounds of Silence project and Duke University's Neuroartifact project.
